When did I start looking forward to TERMINATOR 4?
When did I start looking forward to TERMINATOR 4?
Mar 02I’m trying to put my finger on exactly what happened to my anticipation of McG’s upcoming addition to the TERMINATOR saga, TERMINATION: SALVATION.
At first, when news dropped of a new Terminator coming our way, I was slightly intrigued. Thankful at first that it wasn’t a remake/reboot/reimagining/rehash/restart (what the f*ck is the preferred term these days?) I was soon let down in progressive steps:
- NOT starring Arnold.
- Probably PG13.
- Directed by McG (director of Charlies Angels (2000) and some Offspring video clips).
- Stars Batman (yeah, this counted as a negative at the time…)
Instinctively, in my mind, these snippets of news equaled a negative score.
Then came the kickass flash-based teaser poster, including the TERMINATOR signature tune. Nostalgia rose within me, and I nodded slightly in an effort well done. Then I went and watched T2: JUDGEMENT DAY again.
Then came the teaser trailer. Then the official poster… Now the official trailer (embedded below). And of course, the timely leak of Christian Bale chucking a mental while on the set of this production. All of this coverage seems to have slowly chipped away at me to the point where, yes, I must admit, I am looking forward to seeing this film — despite my better judgment. Perhaps even just to see if it can live up to it’s promise of being worthy to carry the Terminator label, I will be buying a ticket to this one. Because Lord knows, TERMINATOR 3 sure wasn’t worthy.
I’m not sure what happened. Somewhere along the way my interest was sparked and now I have this feeling that I shouldn’t miss it in cinemas. Perhaps it is a sense of ownership having followed the project since it was announced? Perhaps McG has brainwashed me?
My only ongoing gripe right now is that Christian Bale is clearly putting on the gritty Batman voice in his role as John Conner. If it grits my sh*t as much as it did in The Dark Knight, I’m not sure I will leave the cinema with any warm and fuzzy feelings in my tummy.
