Eddie Murphy is going to be wonderful as Richard Pryor

Eddie Murphy is going to be wonderful as Richard Pryor

Mar 03

He may not have proven it in his recent spat of shockers, but Eddie Murphy can act.  Believe it.

We’ve all seen his RAW live show at some point (his not-as-funny-as-Delirious sequel, but still funnier than most standups, especially at the time) where he praises Richard Pryor for being an inspiration for him and proceeds to complete an act imitating him.  I’m sure we all thought at that point ‘wow, he impersonates Richard Pryor perfectly!…’ and he does. And he will, in a bio pic about the life of Richard Pryor – the comedian who defined standup comedy through the 70′s.

This is brilliant casting, and I am thoroughly looking forward to the project as a result.  Adding further interest is the fact that it is in the hands of a competent director in Bill Condon (although DREAM GIRLS was slightly BORING, Eddie was magic).

They’re calling it RICHARD PRYOR: IS IT SOMETHING I SAID?, which seems long winded.  Last thing we need is films that aren’t sequels using sub-headings.
