CRAZY HEART would have been worth the wait, but you don’t have to
Nov 17
I have no idea where on Earth this movie came from. Like a gift from the heavens, I only just discovered it yesterday (via slashfilm). I had no idea it existed before them. Oh, I probably read and commented about the casting a while back, or skimmed over the one-liner ‘Crazy Heart starts production…’ but I never soaked it up. Well… consider me soaked!
Jeff Bridges stars with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Robert Duvall and Collin Farrell in what is already being toted as the Oscar sleeper comparable to The Wrestler earlier this year. Liek The Wrestler, this also comes from Fox Searchlight and 4-time Oscar nominee (note: yet to win) Jeff Bridges delivers a career-defining performance (doesn’t he always, though…?) much like Mickey Rourke did. I’ll just let the trailer do the talking:
I do enjoy when a film comes out of the blue like this (especially aided by the fact that I knew nothing about it until now). Now there isn’t much of a wait to see it (16 December 2009). Here’s the official write-up and poster:
Four-time Academy Award® nominee Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film CRAZY HEART from writer-director Scott Cooper. Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (Golden Globe® nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart.
