DAYBREAKERS: Finally, a reprieve from Twilight
DAYBREAKERS: Finally, a reprieve from Twilight
Nov 30
Will we ever tire of vampire films? Twilight fans, maybe not, but I’ve seen my fair share of vampire junk in the past to know that– just like real vampires– they’ll keep on coming. So, amongst all the (overblown) hype for Twilight, it’s nice to see another vampire movie crack the door open a little for fans of, you know, REAL vampires.
The Spierig Brothers became somewhat indie-famous back in 2003 when they sold their houses to make a zombie-alien-action-horror-thriller that went by the name Undead. That landed them a distribution deal and now, 6 years later, here comes their follow-up: Daybreakers.
The Daybreakers trailer is exciting to see because you know it comes from fresh minds looking for a fresh take on an old legend. The premise has promise and could be riddled with decent scares and gory goodness. Had I not known any of that I’m not so sure I would have seen this trailer in the same/right light. Sort of “More vampires? Really?“. I can see how people might think this film is attempting to cash-in. And I guess when it comes to marketing Daybreakers, Lion’s Gate won’t be ignorant to that fact.
Daybreakers is released January 8 2010 and stars Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe & Isabel Lucas
In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.
