IRON MAN 2 poster plays it safe

Paramount Pictures and Marvel have unvieled the first official poster for 2010′s Iron Man 2. Fans are pretty wrapped that they finally get a close look at the War Machine suit which presumably Don Cheadle will use in the film alongside Robert Downey Jr.

While great to see, the poster definitely keeps things stock-standard and ultra safe. I find the subtle hint of not revealing the title and only giving the sequel number is getting rather old (albeit effective). Apart from that there isn’t much going on at all. Which isn’t to say fans of Iron Man wouldn’t be excited. But it doesn’t do much to rope in anyone who otherwise wouldn’t give a damn. I guess they don’t need to do much convincing after Iron Man pulled over $585 million at the worldwide box office.

The first movie was extremely enjoyable, which took me by great surprise. I dunno what I was expecting but that first Iron Man knocked all my expectations out the park. Now I’m thoroughly looking forward to the sequel of a superhero movie for the first time since Batman Returns… hopefully the result is much better!

This time ’round Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke join the cast to add heightened intrigue into how this now-ensemble cast blockbuster will turn out come May 7. Look forward to a trailer or teaser soon.
