PRINCE OF PERSIA international poster ironically lacks courage

Usually there’s at least something to take away from a bad poster. But this takes the cake. It is just confusingly pointless from top to bottom. I’m talking about Disney’s latest international poster release to promote one of their major films of 2010: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Are we supposed to be intrigued by the bold-red COURAGE lead text? Or maybe the bored, distant look from Jake Gyllenhaal will make you buy a ticket in May? I mean, he is looking right at you… And what about those who have no fucking idea what the game is? Prince of Persia doesn’t mean much otherwise. I guess Disney are heavily relying on the fact that we should know better.
I like it when posters break away from their traditional ‘rules’ and strive to be different, but this misses the mark in so many ways. For this poster to have any affect one has to have already seen the trailer or be aware of the project. Because they’d discover very little about Prince of Persia if this is the first thing they see about the film.
The more I look at it, the more it appears to be nothing more than a cheap postcard.

From the team that brought the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy to the big screen, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films present PRINCE OF PERSIA
: THE SANDS OF TIME, an epic action-adventure set in the mystical lands of Persia. A rogue prince (JAKE GYLLENHAAL) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (GEMMA ARTERTON) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
