Finally! A convincing AVATAR image
Finally! A convincing AVATAR image

Avatar fans will be scrambling to save these latest high resolution images released today, probably setting a few of them on rotation as their desktop wallpaper until the film is finally released December 18 (December 17 Down Under, which will still be 16 in the States… go figure). But hey, that’s what fans are for and it’s great that they’re highly anticipating the next joygasm from Jimmy-boy Cameron.
Me? Not as excited, sorry. Just another collection of stills showing animated blue people. I’m not even trying to be an outlaw by rebelling against it in an attempt to appear provocative. I have honestly not been impressed so far. The images have been mediocre, the trailers predictably average and don’t get me started on Avatar Day… what a let down that was!
I will admit that the promotional blanket has improved for Avatar as the release date draws near, and it does seem like there will be something for everybody. I will also admit that, while still being ‘more of the same’, there are a couple of images that were impressive to look at. In particular, this one:

I think it has something to do with the fact that this image seems less like an animation cell and more like a photo because not everything is a gradient of blue. The Navi (did I spell it right?) is set apart from the background for a change, unlike most of the other Avatar pics where the characters don’t seem to ‘pop’ from their blue backgrounds. For example:

I scabbed these from slashfilm so click over there to see the rest of the pics and the high resolution versions you see posted here, all released by 21st Century Fox earlier today.
AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of “Titanic,” first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

im scared to watch any AVATAR footage that comes through. After watching the new trailer which pretty much explains the plot line for the film i instantly stopped clicking on links to the film.
But then i might miss out on all the hype for the film…
