ZOMBIELAND 2 has to be filmed in 3D otherwise you won’t go see it
Dec 03I am thrilled to hear the news that a Zombieland sequel is going ahead. The original creative team, including director Ruben Fleischer, are on board to take us back to hilarious zombie action mayhem. Sounds perfect…
Unfortunately (and, I guess, un-surprisingly) the zombie-packed sequel will be shot in 3D. Because otherwise how else will they sell those tickets, right?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for 3D when executed correctly (pardon the pun). What I don’t enjoy is having my intelligence insulted by studios assuming 3D is the only way to somehow guarantee butts-in-seats. I’m not buying into that. If the original worked as well as it did (and sold as much as it did), where’s the necessity for a sequel in 3D? At least, it seems, there’s some progressive thinking behind shooting Zombieland 2 in 3D:
“Everyone had fun watching (the first) ‘Zombieland’; making it a more visceral experience can only make it better,” says producer Gavin Polone. “I don’t think you want to see ‘Ordinary People’ in 3-D. But ‘Zombieland’ is clearly one movie that will benefit from (the technique).”
Fair point– I just hope the execution of the technique is there, otherwise it’ll be a complete waste of what could have been a great sequel had a filming technique gotten in the way… when 3D works, it works well. When it doesn’t (more often than not) it. Ruins. Everything about the viewing experience.
Sony are currently in talks with stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg to reprise their roles as a pair of post-apocalyptic survivors. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working on the sequel’s screenplay.
No release date has been set at this time.

First film was AWESOME! The whole cast best return for the sequel. As for the 3D bit..meh ill go see it regardless. And that isnt a selling factor anymore these days, everything seems to be made in 3D.
