THE CRAZIES trailer cuts to black, fades to black, cuts to black, fades
Dec 14
So many trailers use this cut-to-black, fade-to-black, cut-to-black technique these days that it has almost become cliché. I still don’t understand how the technique is affective. It goes against many basic principles of editing — like ‘keep the viewer visually interested’. I guess any regular Joe with Adobe Premiere can cut a trailer this way nowadays; I’d like to think we can expect more from those with a bankroll to work with.
Besides this second trailer for Breck Eisner’s The Crazies remake being distractingly jarring in editing, I’m still very interested in seeing how they’ve treated the material and what kind of final product they’ve produced. Looks to have at least some moments worth sitting through. I just hope it falls into the enjoyable category and isn’t another bastardised remake that held promise but doesn’t deliver.
Breck Eisner directs The Crazies from a script by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright. It tells the story of a small town struck by insanity when an unknown toxin starts turning its happy, law-abiding citizens into mindless killing machines. Trying desperately to survive both the infected populace and the subsequent military response, the town’s Sheriff (Timothy Olyphant), his pregnant wife (Radha Mitchell), his deputy (Joe Anderson), and an assistant at the medical center (Danielle Panabaker) find themselves forced to band together if they ever intend on getting out of the town alive.
The Crazies is released February 26 2010
