The pending simplicity of HOT TUB TIME MACHINE

Sometimes I wish it were easier switch my brain off enjoy a simple, straightforward movie without criticising the hell out of it. When a film is designed to be nothing but purely entertaining and puts art-form in second place, trying to ‘grade’ it on artistic integrity can be troublesome. So, in the case of upcoming comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, I hope I can easily switch off and just get barreleld along for the laughs.

This new redband trailer has left a sweet taste in my mouth. Simple, funny, and — let’s face it — a premise that can’t go wrong. Yes, it appears average, and yeah, it’s an obvious kind of humour, but be damned if it doesn’t look like a lot of fun. Really, that’s all it wants to be. The countless amount of eighties references are sure to make me smirk.

The cast looks an interesting fit as well. I find Craig Robinson’s delivery always funny (the final line of this trailer is a fine example) and John Cusack even hinting at his eighties-self sort of removes everything 2012 and adds a notch of cool back to his belt.

Folk in the USA can look for Hot Tub Time Machine in cinemas on 19 March. I guess, based on its success, we’ll find out later if we get it on the big screen Down Under or just direct-to-DVD.

Hot Tub Time Machine: A group of unsatisfied men (John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Clark Duke, and Craig Robinson) return to the ski resort where they used to party when they were younger and get thrown back in time to their younger days in 1986 in their Jacuzzi. Directed by Steve Pink.
