spilling thoughts on everyday movie news

GET HIM TO THE GREEK trailer aims to get you to the cinema

I’m having one of those days where I’m tired of being overly critical. I try to remain in an objective frame of mind as often as possible, especially when tackling film thoughts, but on this particular day here Down Under it’s too friggin’ hot to get into anything too deep and meaningful– which works in favour for the Get Him To The Greek trailer I just watched.

Seems the creators of Forgetting Sarah Marshall figured a spinoff movie starring Russell Brand as his rock star character Aldous Snow might play well to audiences, so they conjured up this new comedy romp quick-smart. Get Him To The Greek centres around Aaron Greenberg (Jonah Hill), a driven, idealistic young college graduate who works as an intern at a record company and is given his big break when he is sent to transport flaky English musician Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) to a concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater.

As plain and straightforward as Forgetting Sarah Marshall was, there were plenty of moments that conjured a hefty chuckle out of me, and most of those came from Russell Brand. Keeping in mind, though, that ‘Sarah Marshall‘ was my first ever exposure to Brand and his flavour of comedy. Since then, his schtick has failed to stick more often than not. It’d be nice if Get Him To The Greek could capture some of that comedic timing ‘Sarah Marshall‘ had, and with ‘Sarah Marshall’ director Nicholas Stoller returning for ‘Greek‘, there’s a fair chance that could be the case.

If you played it side-by-side with other comedy trailers it probably wouldn’t stand out a great deal. It’s definitely cut and paced the way a comedy trailer should be, and I must admit to getting a few chuckles out of it– and if the trailer can make me chuckle, I’m generally interested in checking out the film itself. I guess that’s kinda the point… but I’m, still a little ‘take it or leave it’ about this one. Trailer and poster and a pic pasted below.
