James McAvoy cast in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS… as Professor X

When I first heard about X-Men: First Class, I thought “Okay, a kind of reboot for the franchise, with a whole new cast; that’ll be interesting.” It didn’t sink in for me that the characters were all going to be so young until news hit that James McAvoy has been cast in the role of Professor Xavier. James McAvoy is, what, half Patrick Stewart’s age? Yikes.
With Matthew Vaughn at the helm, can we expect the teen mutants to be anything like Hit Girl? Well, no, this is X-Men we’re talking about. So what does a teenaged reboot of the franchise have going for it? The answer is, just like with the teenaged Spider-Man reboot, approximately jack-all. I guess if they keep rebooting this stuff once a decade then they’ll reach a new generation of 10-year-old boys every time, right?
