New SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD trailer is ‘epic’

Appealing to comic book fans everywhere and looking epic-as-hell, Universal have released a new trailer for their upcoming action-comedy Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World directed by Edgar Wright and starring Michael Cerra. There’s enough comic book styling to have any geek wetting their pants and more than enough comedy and action to have a non-comic person (like me) tilt their head and take a closer look. Definitely looks like nothing else I’ve ever seen before.

This is the second full trailer for the film which is released 26 August in Australia (6 August in the UK, 13 August in the US).

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsome identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Wow, looks so cheesy and bad that its AWESOME!!! If it was done any other way it probably come across as the worst movie ever. But the way Mr Wright does it is just plain genius. Very early to say but i think it will sit comfortably next to Shaun of the Dead.

  2. Re your comment on “Just like the '80s. Actually being from the '80s – my teens were spent there, you Generation Y kids have definitely have the better end of the deal. If 20 years time, if you do end up wondering “What were we thinking”, about the melange of pop cultural icons you name-checked above, then that wouldn't be so bad.

I do have a nostalgic love for the 1980s. But youse kids have it pretty sweet right now. *Fades off into the past – to the strains of Spandau Ballet's “True”*
