CENTURION trailer: fire, foreigners, and face-paint

Jun 15

Ah, yes — the Roman occupation of Britain. Those were dark days, as I recall. There we were, with barely a tuber to feed a country, and in marches a hundred thousand Roman soldiers, babbling about this Christ fellow and falling into the testudo formation at the drop of a hat. Don’t they know that rolling giant balls of fire into their marching column is just our way of saying “Hello?” At least we had the wonderfully foreign Olga Kurylenko to lead us, even if her face always was painted blue for some reason.

Those were the days.

Centurion stars Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds), Dominic West (300), and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum Of Solace), and is directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent). It’s due in the US on 27 August 2010, and I (obviously) have no idea what it’s about.

Olga's horse unfortunately didn't share her composure.

Argh that poster looks like King Arthur meets 300.

Neeeope no interest. Im quite easy when it comes to period peices. Big action sequence, some historical backdrop, your stereotypical plot regarding conquest and i wanna learn some real facts about these times. I like it to look EPIC, and well this LOTR tale of going behind enemy lines just dosent cut it.

I am yet to see a well directed epic action sequence. The opening scene of Gladiator holds the top spot, with The attack on Helms Deep coming in 2nd followed by the first attack on Troy in well Troy. Yet all of them have neither satisfied my needs interms of a giant epic fight scene. I am sick of this “One man army” shit, battles included 1000s and 1000s of men attacking each-other.

Give me 10,000 CGI men running at each other with background action, arrows flying, catapults going off. Close ups, medium and long shots of the battle sequence taking place. And i would like to see the action, none of this to close to see the swords hitting shit.

  2. You should play a Total War game then. Oh wait, you're on a mac …

I dunno, this one's directed by Neil Marshall, and I really liked the Descent. So I'll probably check it out.
