2nd teaser for THE SOCIAL NETWORK just as enigmatic as the first

As a film-lover, I want to like David Fincher. Se7en and Fight Club were, as everyone knows, two of the defining films of the 1990s, and we’re still feeling the after-effects of their influence to this day. But 21st century Fincher is a bit harder to get into. I thought Zodiac was good, but not great, and I didn’t bother watching The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button when I found out how long it ran.

It’s curious that Fincher should bring it down around a bajillion notches for his next film, The Social Network. On paper, the story doesn’t interest me: college dudes plagiarise website idea, achieve huge financial success regardless. But David Fincher’s involvement does interest me. What I need is a good solid trailer to assuage my confusion and sell me on the idea.

Instead, we get another ambiguous hype-mongering teaser that is strangely hard to follow. I don’t know where to look. Am I supposed to read the names? Are those the actors’ names or the characters’ names? Why are they reading aloud something that is written on the screen? Doesn’t this give a false impression of busy-ness to a film that will almost certainly be more sedately paced?

Whatever the outcome is, The Social Network is due for a 1 October 2010 release in the States; it’ll probably hit our shores some time in the following months.

I read the script. It's just so boring. It's like an episode of Law and Order. I like Fincher but I just don't get this film.
Whose the audience for it? Facebook users? Why aren't they promoting the shit out of it on facebook? and for the majority of facebook users this script is way to intellectual.

  3. I hate Law and Order! Hey advertising on facebook would be a good idea …

It's written by Aaron Sorkin, who has the great gift of writing intellectual conversations and throwing in funny metaphors so the everyman can keep up (just watch The West Wing and you'll know exactly what I mean). And I think if there is any director that can make an episode of Law and Order suspenseful, it's Fincher.
