I’M STILL HERE: THE LOST YEAR OF JOAQUIN PHOENIX gets a distributer, release date

Last year saw Joaquin Phoenix (the bad guy from Gladiator, Johnny Cash in Walk The Line) do some remarkably strange things. He rapped at some nightclub, falling off the stage mid-performance; he appeared whacked out of his brains on Letterman; and generally faded from public view to “pursue a career in rap music.” At the time, everyone wondered if Phoenix had just lost his marbles, or whether this was just some Borat-esque mockumentary prank.

Turns out it was (thankfully) the latter. I’m Still Here: The Lost Year Of Joaquin Phoenix, which features such family-friendly scenes as Phoenix snorting cocain off a hooker’s chest, frequent male nudity, and a sleeping Phoenix being defecated on by persons unknown, has been picked up for distribution by Magnolia, with a release date locked in for September 2010.

The thing that really tempts me to see this is that Casey Affleck is directing it. If he’s half as good at putting a movie together at his brother, I’m Still Here is going to be a fascinating thing to watch.

I’m Still Here: Some More Words After A Colon opens in relatively limited release on 17 September 2010 Stateside. It probably won’t see a theatrical release here, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for the DVD release.

  1. Didn't think I would be interested, but I'm strangely looking forward to this one.

  2. Sky Bluu

As soon ss I found out it was all fake I got some interest going. But are thoses minimal public appearances enough to warrant and hour and a half? Because I'd think that's where the movie would be strong, as the audience can relate to them.
