First trailer for Ben Affleck’s THE TOWN, featuring creepy masks and Blake Lively

Ben Affleck is a good director — surprisingly good, for a guy who made a name for himself appearing in such dross as Armageddon, Gigli and Daredevil. The first trailer for his second feature, The Town, hit overnight, and it is packed to the brim with sharp cinematography, dark performances, and scenes with Blake Lively.

I’m not sure how keen I am on the “I kidnapped a bank manager and fell in love with her” plot, but if anyone can make it work, it’s Ben Affleck. Ten years ago, that last clause would have been unthinkable. Ben Affleck? Do something good? Never! But we all ate our words when Gone Baby Gone came out, didn’t we?

Let’s hope lightning can strike twice for the fledgling director.

The Town is due in the US on 10 September 2010; international release dates yet to be announced..
