It’s been a while since the filmosphere went bananas over the last Darren Aronofsky flick, so it’s about time he served up a fresh one. This one’s got Natalie Portman in it, and comes with a fascinatingly discombobulated plot synopsis:

The dark tale with psychological twists stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a technically brilliant ballerina whose life takes some strange turns after being picked as the lead in a New York City production of Swan Lake. Pressures mount as her overbearing mother (Barbara Hershey) pushes her to succeed and her manipulative dance master (Vincent Cassel) commands her to be more seductive and loose in her performance. Complicating matters is the arrival of Lily (Mila Kunis), a sultry dancer who exhibits all the innate ease and sexuality that Nina lacks. Nina begins to fixate on the newcomer as the two forge an unusual relationship.

What a beauitful and ultimately meaningless chunk of text! Black Swan will struggle to make a dime at the box office, but film critics still enamored of The Wrestler will sing its praises from the battlements. I haven’t seen The Wrestler (sue me), so I don’t really know what to expect from Black Swan, but with a synopsis as nutty as that, and Natalie Portman in the lead role, how can I not be interested?

Black Swan doesn’t have a release date yet. Not anywhere! Not even in America! “2010″ is as close a prediction as Imdb will volunteer.

  1. All I can think about is Thom Yorke's song.
