YOGI BEAR trailer is everything you’d expect from a family-friendly kids movie for the Holiday season

As revealed yesterday when the poster was released, the first trailer for the live action/CGI animated movie adaptation of Yogi Bear has arrived. Introduced by Dan Aykroyd, the trailer is everything you’d expect from a family friendly kids film for the Holiday season. Seems it’ll be a dead-set match for past films of the same ilk, such as Garfield and Scooby-Doo. Dan Aykroyd voices Yogi Bear while Justin Timberlake voices Boo-Boo Bear. Ana Faris co-stars (and, thankfully, makes an appearance in the trailer).

There should be no surprises here, yet people are up in arms about their favourite childhood cartoon getting the reboot treatment from Hollywood. I can understand that. I’m a Transformers G1 fan. But really, I don’t think anyone who was aware of Yogi Bear being rehashed honestly expected anything different. The kids are going to get a kick out of this and it’ll sure make its money come December. That being said, it really does look awful.

Yogi Bear opens 17 December 2010 in the States. That’s the same day as Tron Legacy

When Jellystone Park is found to be losing business, greedy Mayor Brown decides to shut it down and sell the land. That means families will no longer be able to experience the natural beauty of the outdoors — and, even worse, Yogi and Boo Boo will be tossed out of the only home they’ve ever known. Faced with his biggest challenge ever, Yogi must prove that he really is “smarter than the average bear” as he and Boo Boo join forces with their old nemesis Ranger Smith to find a way to save Jellystone Park from closing forever.
