NOT taking the piss: Darren Aronofsky wants Christian Bale to star in biblical film about Noah’s Ark
Jun 16Alright, so we normally shy away from “this might happen, but it’s just a trade rumor right now with no green light” stories, because they’re usually a waste of time… but this one is pretty damn interesting.
Director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan) has been trying to get a film adaptation of Noah’s Ark off the ground for a while, an idea he’s had since he was a kid. To get the film the backing it needs (apparently in the ballpark of $130 million, as you do…) the script needs a ‘star’ attached, so he’s in talks with Christian Bale. Nothing is signed, but it’s an interesting project, to say the least.
I trust Aronofsky– he’s yet to make a film I haven’t enjoyed. He’s undoubtedly a proficient and talented director, but Noah’s Ark? I hope it gets off the ground (geddit?) because the trailer alone would be fascinating.

HARRY POTTER ‘It All Ends’ poster: shit just got real
Jun 14No wonder this long-as-fuck title isn’t on the poster, the designer probably had trouble making the typography work. Also, I reckon “It All Ends” is a much better title than Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Anyway… After an onslaught of rather typical character banners, Warner Bros. have released this new poster showing a grubby Harry standing distraught, holding his wand (we’re all adults here…) with Hermione and Ginger looking equally grubby in the background. Shit just got real.
Get ready for the final Harry Potter: It All Ends (see what I mean!) to crash to all-time top 10 grossing list later this year after it opens worldwide July 15th, 2011.
COWBOYS & ALIENS trailer is actually a bit convincing
Jun 14Another in the long list of predictable, CGI-heavy blockbuster comic book movies, Cowboys & Aliens was a film I couldn’t give two fucks about until this very trailer. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford look like they’ll have good chemistry, Olivia Wilde gets naked and director John Favreau can be trusted with this kind of material after Iron Man (we can just forget Iron Man 2 ever happened, right?)
Cowboys & Aliens arrives 29 July in the States. No Aussie date yet.
SUPER 8 reviewed
Jun 12A hark back to some timeless classics for a modern audience and those clinging to nostalgia, complete with comfortable characters, now-cliche/predictable story and unfortunately plastic CGI that feels completely out of place. But fuck it, it’s harmless fun.
Looks flashy like Star Trek, feels cozy like The Goonies, acts important like Jurassic Park and sounds fucking terrible like Transformers.
