A little long but a lot of fun, with magnetic performances and a knockout ending. The franchise is finally back on track.

Slow and barely funny, it’s like watching the first movie with the colours cranked up. Great photography, though.

Tight as a drum, with heartfelt performances and a philosophically resonant script, it only falters in the last reel.

Smaller, cheaper, but no less baffling than the last two, it’s like an incoherent and soulless caricature of the first.

Slow-paced and miscast, and it loses steam in act three, but when it works (every scene with Waltz or the elephant), it’s great.

Inept accents kill the humour, a halfarsedness that sadly extends to the rest of this tedious, joyless power fantasy.
