Built deep into the core of this teaser is the main problem confronting the fourth Pirates flick, On Stranger Tides: on his own, as the sole focus of the picture, Jack Sparrow doesn’t work as well as he does as a side-character.
It’d be like making Star Wars all about Han Solo — it may sound cool, but ultimately, focusing on the “shapeshifter” archetype doesn’t deliver the...

A good twist will immediately set your mind spinning. You sit there in the darkened theatre with your jaw agape, breathlessly going over the last two hours of your life and combing through those memories for some kind of clue. The best twists will encourage repeat viewings; the very best twists will serve to enrich the thematic conent of the film.
The other side of the coin is the bad twist: the kind of twist...

That’s right, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is filming right now. Well maybe not right now; today’s a Saturday. Depends on their schedule — do they do 6-day weeks at Disney or do they shoot Monday – Friday? Who knows.
Anyway, check out these photos of Johnny Depp chillin’ with some dudes on a log, and asking whether he’s allowed to go pee in the ocean,...

I had no idea what to expect. The only clues I had were that Rango was an animated film starring a silly-looking green lizard voiced by Johnny Depp. I mean, what else is there to know?
It is also voiced by Australia’s own Isla Fischer along with Bill Nighy, and directed by Gore Verbinski, the same man who brought us those Pirates of the Caribbean films– hey, they starred Johnny Depp, too!! …...

Following on from that infuriatingly enigmatic “teaser” from a few weeks ago, Paramount has deigned to offer us mere mortals a glimpse at the titular character of Gore Verbinski’s upcoming animated tale Rango.
And somehow, it doesn’t quite assuage my confusion. Aside from being butt ugly and giving off an irritating “LOOK AT HOW GODDAMN QUIRKY I AM” vibe, the...

Johnny Depp + 3D = $500 million dollars. That’s the only thing on Disney’s mind right now. Johnny Depp + 3D + interesting storyline = $500 million dollars + loyal fans doesn’t seem to have crossed their mind.
Via Slashfilm:
In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he’s not sure if...

Where do you go searching for your next project after being axed from the mega-bucks Spider-Man franchise you helped create? Why, you simply follow the yellow brick road.

I’ll get the bad news out of the way first:
The fourth Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, will be split into two discrete films. This is bad news because the Twilight movies are bad, and more of them can’t be a good thing (did I really have to explain that to you?). The first part is due in December 2011.
Next up, some potentially good news:
Splice director Vincenzo Natali has been officially...

I’d seen the title Rango dropped around a few film news sites over the past year; for some reason I always thought it was a live-action movie about a cowboy, with Johnny Depp in it. Then I watched this new teaser trailer for the flick, and to my shock it’s actually an animated movie about a chameleon (Depp) undergoing a crisis of identity. Gore Verbinski (Pirates Of The Caribbean) is directing,...

Disney is jumping for joy and rolling around in large wads of cash as Tim Burton’s CGI-heavy version of Alice in Wonderland just become the sixth film in history to crack the illustrious $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. To date, Alice has earned over $332 million in the US and almost $670 million in worldwide cinemas. This makes Tim Burton a billion dollar director– just think of the...
