First poster for Clint Eastwood’s HEREAFTER is bleak and blue
Sep 24
It doesn’t take much to sell a Clint Eastwood movie. His name alone is usually enough; just let everyone know that the guy who made Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, and Gran Torino is doing something new, and they’ll come to the cinema to see it.
The poster for Hereafter relies a little too heavily on Eastwood’s name for support: it’s bland and generic; Bryce Dallas Howard is almost unrecogniseable; there’s some naff-looking alien and / or ghost thing in the background … if the words ‘A film by CLINT EASTWOOD’ weren’t there above the title, I think the majority of people would skip this one. Me, I’m in it for the tsunamis.
Hereafter is directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Matt Damon and Bryce Dallas Howard. The US gets the film on 22 October 2010; no release dates for us as yet.

Yes, this LET ME IN poster is pretty neat. It’s still a damn remake, though
Sep 21
This new quad poster for Let Me In has been released for UK audiences. Of course, everyone in the world gets to see a copy via the trusty internet. Sometimes territory marketing is silly.
I’ve been critical of Matt Reeves‘ American remake of the Swedish film Let The Right One In since it was the first trailer arrived. Only because a remake geared toward Western audiences with Hollywood arcs, all for the convenience of no subtitles, seems like such a smack in the face to an original film that is otherwise perfect.
My doubts were eased a little when Reeves assured he and the producers were adapting the original book from scratch, and not ripping from the Swedish film. Turns out that is not the case at all. The remake looks like a spitting image of the original.
And guess what? Audiences are excited. Buzz is growing, because vampires are ‘in’. Twilight fans are curious. Horror fans are intrigued. People who can’t get enough True Blood are raising an interested eyebrow at this one. Most have no idea this is a remake.
And that’s how it works.
Let Me In opens 1 October in the States, 14 October Down Under.
New feature trailer and images for Disney’s animated family friendly comedy TANGLED
Sep 16
Disney have released a new feature trailer (with titles aimed at UK audiences) and crisp images for their upcoming family friendly animated adventure Tangled.
Remember how Shrek took fairy tales and sort of gave ‘em a hip update for today’s audiences (back then)? That’s what this is doing for the Rapunzel tale, starting by having her voiced by Mandy Moore. Naturally. Check out the new trailer and images embedded below.
The film has a release date locked in for just about every other territory besides Australia, but I suspect we’ll be seeing it on our screens during the Summer school holidays (makes sense, right?) And Christmas is the perfect time for families to go to the cinema.
Anyway, Tangled it opens 24 November in the U.S., and the story synopsis is below if the trailer leaves you hanging.
When the kingdom’s most wanted — and most charming — bandit, Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi), hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo set off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs. Disney’s Tangled is a story of adventure, heart, humour and hair — lots of hair

A new poster and clip for those looking forward to JACKASS 3D
Sep 14
I discovered how much I am truly aging recently when I saw the film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I was definitely the older guy in the cinema who hardly laughed and many of the jokes zoom over my head. It looked great, though.
I will not need Jackass 3D to confirm my age (I’m only 30, by the way… but a married father of two, so I might as well be 37 in reality) I haven’t been part of he Jackass at any stage of the franchise. I certainly see appreciate appeal, but it simply doesn’t make me laugh. Rather, I raise my eyebrows in bewilderment. It takes all sorts, I guess.
Fellow Reel Thinker writer Robin is keen on the Jackass gang, and apparently he’s dead-set keen on this 3D installment. He’ll enjoy this new retro-ish poster and new clip. As might you.
Jackass 3D stars Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Ryan Dunn, and Jason Acuña and 15 October 2010. No Aussie release dates, yet. Of course.

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS poster: knobbly knees and massive pillows
Sep 09
I think I get it. Get two well-known, attractive actors, take their clothes off, put them on a bed, sell a movie. But why is he covering his mouth? Why are their feet and knees so prominent in this shot? And where did they find pillows the perfect size to cover up their fiddly bits?
The trailer for Love And Other Drugs showed that the film would be a paint-by-numbers rom-com. I never really got on the Anne Hathaway bandwagon and I don’t know how I feel about Jake Gyllenhaal as a romantic lead, so I’m still pretty cold on the whole project (though I did like some of Ed Zwick‘s earlier films — specifically, the action films).
24 November 2010 is the day to see this one Stateside. Is that around the time of that Thanksgiving thing? No local release dates yet.
